Overview

The third key building block in developing a comprehensive HR strategy for the printing and graphic communications industry is an understanding of the education and training needs of the individuals who work in our industry.

Our first step, the CPISC Report on Education and Training Programs and Providers was released in November 2007. To view the report, click here.

With the completion of National Skills Standards in the prepress, press and finishing and bindery areas, CPISC was then in a position to examine the gaps between actual and required skills of printing employees.  The Bridging the Gaps report compares skill shortfalls against available training from employers and educators, and then presents a training-delivery model for the industry to guide employees on the path to life-long learning.  It also provided a series of recommendations for implementing a training strategy for the industry.

Moving forward, the Council is building on those findings and developing a series of training resources for the industry ranging from online training programs to company specific needs assessment and program development.

Stay tuned as the resources are developed over the next year.
